Not all apps are safe for children.
All of a sudden, as I was cooking dinner, I heard screaming and crying coming from my child’s iPad. I immediately went over to him and said “What are you watching Honey?” He passed the iPad to me and I saw he was on YouTube Kids, an app that I had approved and monitor. This app is supposed to be regulated by YouTube just for kids. But there it was, Spiderman and Elsa hurting people. Someone had created a youtube channel for kids that clearly was not appropriate and it slid through their radars. I reported the video and was assured that they would remove that content. However, it’s too late. My son saw those disturbing images already. That’s scary to think that a teaching resource has been corrupted and is not 100% safe.
I am encouraging parents to download 2 or 3 educational apps that are trustworthy and 100% safe for your child. Listed below are my favorite picks.
PATTY SHUKLA’S NEW
Now you can download my free app on any device. It’s easy to use, with just videos for children to freely swipe and choose. There are categories too: Count,Dance, Favorite, Story, Sign and Search. The best part is you’re guaranteed 100% safety and learning! Hundreds of music videos to help your child learn key development skills and be entertained for those moments when you need a second.
SAFE YOUTUBE CHANNELS
This leads me to the question we’re all thinking, is it ok for children to watch devices? Yes! I strongly support technology as a teaching resource. As you all know, I have two YouTube channels PattyShukla and PattysNurseryRhymes with hundreds of valuable early childhood teaching music videos. Technology today can be like flash cards from the past. Children learn shapes, colors, counting and so much when they watch educational content. All of my content is safe and family approved. Likewise, there are many other channels such as Sesame Street, Super Simple Songs, Elf Kids Videos and HooplaKidz
UNSAFE YOUTUBE CHANNELS
Super Heroes IRL
Battle Vs. Death Battle
Super Hero Kids Rhymes
And the list goes on and on.
If you use YouTube Kids there are restriction you can determine from the start, including age appropriate content. However, it is not a 100% full proof and safe. I’m encouraging parents to download the apps you trust.
